About Me
I’m a freelance science journalist, editor, and fact-checker based out of Colorado. I’ve written for publications such as Undark, Scientific American, Popular Science, Nature Medicine, Science, Chemical & Engineering News, Nautilus, Business Insider, Medscape, WebMD, Psychology Today, Parents, BreastCancer.org, Audubon Magazine, Cancer Today, Live Science, Levels, one5c, and more. I write about health, medicine, parenting, child development, mental health, cancer, LGBTQ+ health, and just about anything related to science or the environment. I have fact-checked for publications like Science News, Audubon Magaizne, Popular Science, Levels, Revel, Transient, and more. I also offer sensitivity reading services for content related to gender and sexuality.
From early 2022 to early 2024, I was the Health & Science Editor for Fatherly, where I wrote and edited stories on men’s health and wellness, fitness, parenting, and child development. From early 2020 to early 2022, I first interned and then worked as a Contributing Editor at Fatherly, specializing in covering the COVID-19 pandemic and writing for newsletters, including the Webby award-winning Homebodies newsletter.
I graduated from New York University in 2019 with a Master’s degree in Science, Health & Environmental Reporting. During my studies, I served as Associated Editor and Multimedia Editor for Scienceline. I also interned at Spectrum, Audubon Magazine and Psychology Today. Previously, I served as Editor-in-Chief of The Synapse, an intercollegiate science magazine based out of Oberlin College, which I graduated from with a B.A. in Biology.
I’m also a fiction writer, and I’m currently querying a YA Fantasy and a YA Contemporary Romance manuscript.
I recently changed my name, so you may find that some of my bylines are under Tara Santora.
